This morning I woke up early (well earlier than usual about 9 o'clock) and I decided to make some cookies. Ben loves chocolate chip cookies so I thought it would be a nice surprise. After putting together the best dough I have ever made I was getting excited. We usually cook everything in our toaster oven so it doesn't overheat the house, but I didn't have a cookie sheet small enough so I fired up the traditional old fashioned oven. The oven preheated to 350 degrees and I stuck in a dozen cookies. After approximately 6 minutes we began to smell something burning. I just assumed it was something on the bottom of the oven, but no, my cookies were ruined! The oven scorched them in all but 6 minutes. The temperature gage is only 100 degrees off. Dumb oven. The next dozen turned out great, but if any of you know my husband they will be gone in 3 hours. :)

Above: Ben fixing the sink...
One night last week I started doing the dishes and realized the sink wouldn't drain. Ben attempted to fix it by plunging, that was a no go. He then took a look at the pipes which seemed loose, barely touched one, and yup you guessed it water went everywhere! All over my new kitchen rug and the water did not have the most pleasant odor. Ben eventually got everything under control so we could go to bed and then we had to have maintenance come fix it, it took them two days. It was quite a night. But I didn't have to do dishes for 2 days :) and it was an excuse to eat out. We went to the Cheesecake Factory! Yum!
Over the weekend we decided to go to Lake Mead. This would be a first time for both of us. Not knowing which dock was the best we just randomly picked one. All we planned to do was picnic and play in the water. We pulled up to Callsville Bay (or something like that) and saw a nice beach that did not look too far away. So being the naive souls that we are, we began the trek. Now Lake Mead is in the middle of no where, pure desert. It was approximately 104 degrees or so, we were carrying bags and a cooler, and both only had on flip flops. The ground was scorching hot so if you slipped it did not feel so good on your feet. There wasn't a live plant around us. To make a long story short it was far away approximately 1.5 miles of rough desert terrain. It was awful. If we did not have water we might have died. It was worth it though the temperature of the lake was perfect and so refreshing. We had two first in one day: our first trek through the desert in flip flops and our first trip to Lake Mead.

These are just a couple of "first" experiences but life is great. We love being married! Life is an adventure, especially being in a new place.

haha Oh Jess!! Isn't married life great!!! When things happen like this, it's always nice that you aren't going through it by yourself!! I miss you! You need to move back to Utah! It was so good to see you on the 4th! You and Ben looked so cute dancing during that concert!!!
ReplyDeleteJess this post made me laugh so hard. Our apartment oven was just like yours. You'd have to put something in for half the time the recipe said because it would burn. So weird. Firsts are always the best! Wait till your first holiday season as a married couple. I think back on our first Christmas together and I tear up. Its so special
